Cookie

A cookie is a bit of information that a website sends to a user’s browser so that the website can identify the user. Cookies are stored in the hard drive of a computer, and are associated with a specific browser. Different cookies contain different types of information. For example, a cookie can contain a user ID and/or password, an email address. A cookie can contain an identification number that does not contain any information associated with a particular user.

Cookies are specific to a browser and a computer. Deleting a cookie from one browser (e.g., Safari) does not delete a similar cookie that is stored on another browser (e.g., Firefox) on the same computer. Deleting a cookie from one computer (e.g., your home computer) will not delete a similar cookie from another computer (e.g., your office computer).

A user can remove cookies from his computer. … More information about cookies
