An Action Tag – or Clear GIF or Web Beacon or Pixel Tag – is a small piece of code that is located on a website. It is part of the programming of a webpage. Unlike cookies, which are stored in a computer, action tags are stored within the code of a website. Action Tags can collect information such as what page a visitor is visiting, how long he is staying on the page, whether he has clicked on a link located on that page. Action Tags are often placed in advertisements that bring people to a site.
